First meeting of the Committee on Emerging Markets Issues, Follow-Up and Implementation established by the diplomatic Conference to Adopt a Convention on Substantive Rules regarding Intermediated.
The meeting, which will include a Colloquium on financial markets law ( 6 and 7 September
), is intended to examine the reception given to the 2009 Geneva Securities Convention in the various countries, consider concrete proposals for its promotion and future work by Unidroit in the area of financial markets law Securities (Rome, 6 to 9 September 2010). -
Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol – Accession by New Zealand
On 20 July 2010 the Government of New Zealand’s instruments of accession to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment were deposited with Unidroit. New Zealand made declarations under Articles 39(1)(a), 52, 53, 54(2) and 55 of the Convention, and Articles XXIX, XXX(1), XXX(3) and XXX(5) of the Aircraft Protocol. The Convention and the Aircraft Protocol will enter into force for New Zealand on 1 November 2010. Luxembourg Rail Protocol – Tender Process
On 30 June 2010, the Secretary-General of Unidroit and the Secretary General of OTIF issued a joint press release
to announce the publication of a “Request for Proposals” for the establishment and operation of the International Registry pursuant to the Luxembourg Rail Protocol.

Seminar Report – The European Union and the Cape Town Convention

Unidroit Committee of governmental experts for the preparation of a draft Protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters specific to Space Assets

At its 89th session, held in Rome from 10 to 12 May 2010, the Unidroit Governing Council authorised the Secretariat to convene a fifth session of the Committee of governmental experts, which will be held in Rome from 21 to 25 February 2011. In line with the statements made in the concluding part of the fourth session regarding future work, the Secretariat will, moreover, be organising meetings of both the Informal Working Group of the Committee of governmental experts on limitations on remedies and the Informal Working Group of the Committee of governmental experts on default remedies in relation to components, as well as consultations with representatives of the international commercial space, financial and insurance communities, in Rome in the week commencing on 18 October 2010. The outcome of these meetings and consultations will be reported to all those to be invited to participate in the fifth session of the Committee of governmental experts in good time for that session

Cape Town Convention and Aircraft Protocol – Accession by the Kingdom of the Netherlands
On 17 May 2010 the Government of the Kingdom of the Netherlands’ instruments of accession to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment and the Protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment for the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba were deposited with Unidroit. The Kingdom of the Netherlands made declarations under Articles 39(1), 52, 53 and 54(2) of the Convention, and Articles XXIX, XXX(1) and XXX(2) of the Aircraft Protocol. By virtue of the declarations made pursuant to Article 52 of the Convention and Article XXIX of the Aircraft Protocol, the Convention and Aircraft Protocol will apply in the following territorial units of the Kingdom of the Netherlands: the Netherlands Antilles and Aruba. The Convention and the Aircraft Protocol will enter into force for the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 1 September 2010. Aircraft Protocol – Singapore declaration
On 26 April 2010, the Government of the Republic of Singapore notified Unidroit of a subsequent declaration under Article XXX(1) of the Aircraft Protocol. Cape Town Convention – Accession by Gabon
On 16 April 2010 the Government of the Gabonese Republic’s instrument of accession to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment was deposited with Unidroit. The Gabonese Republic made no declarations under the Convention. The Convention will enter into force for the Gabonese Republic, subject to Article 49(2) of the Convention, on 1 August 2010.
