Preliminary draft Protocol on Matters specific to Space Assets – Study LXXII J

The transmission to Governments of a preliminary draft Protocol on Matters specific to Space Assets, prepared, at the invitation of UNIDROIT, by a working group the core membership of which was provided by manufacturers, financiers and users/operators of space property as well as the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs, the European Space Agency/European Centre for Space Law and the International Bar Association, was approved by the Governing Council of UNIDROIT in September 2001, subject to revision by a Steering and Revisions Committee of that body to take account of the changes made to the Convention and the Aircraft Protocol at the Cape Town diplomatic Conference. Following such revision in February 2002, a first session of a UNIDROIT Committee of governmental experts was convened on 15 to 19 December 2003 in Rome (Report: UNIDROIT 2004 - C.G.E. Space Pr./1/Report rev.). A second session of a UNIDROIT Committee of governmental experts was convened on 26 to 28 October 2004 in Rome (Report: UNIDROIT 2004 - C.G.E. Space Pr./2/Report rev.).

The current draft is the preliminary draft Protocol on Matters specific to Space Assets as revised by the UNIDROIT Committee of Governmental Experts during its first session (15 to 19 December 2003).
