img01On 10-11 March 2020, UNCITRAL hosted the second session of Joint Workshops, co-organised by sister organisation UNIDROIT, to develop a legal taxonomy of key emerging technologies and their applications (including Artificial Intelligence, Data transactions, Digital Assets, and Distributed Ledger Technology).

The session took place in Vienna, where UNIDROIT was represented by  Secretary-General Professor Ignacio Tirado, Deputy Secretary-General Professor Anna Veneziano (who both joined remotely), and Senior Legal Officer Mr Carlo Di Nicola (who was physically present). The workshop’s purpose was to reconvene a group of experts to progress the preliminary work by formulating definitions, identifying the relevant actors and legal relationships involved, and highlighting the implications for existing legal regimes. The workshop’s focus was on the technologies and applications discussed at the Rome workshop (including digital assets), as well as on data transactions. The conclusions will soon be available on the UNIDROIT and UNCITRAL websites.
