SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT

Sustainable development is a work area that cuts across UNIDROIT’s projects and instruments. This new area of work was established in the 2023-2025 Work Programme and focuses on developing private law instruments to improve commercial relationships and transactions with the goal of furthering sustainability. Given its inherently cross-sectoral dimension, this Workstream is designed to liaise with the other Workstreams to consider how sustainability may be met synergically and will primarily focus on the following UNIDROIT instruments and projects: Legal Nature of Verified Carbon Credits (ongoing – also included in the Financial Markets Workstream), International Investment Contracts (ongoing – also included in the Contracts Workstream), Legal Guide on Contract Farming (2015) and Legal Guide on Agricultural Land Investment Contracts (2021), Collaborative Legal Structures for Agricultural Enterprises (ongoing – also included in Agriculture Workstream), and the forthcoming Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence in Global Value Chains project.
