DESCRIPTION:UNIDROIT is delighted to announce its Centenary Regional Celebratory Conference in Johannesburg on October 16 and 17. \nAs part of the celebrations marking 100 years of UNIDROIT\, the Institute is organizing a series of regional conferences around the world to reflect on the role of international legal harmonisation and the ongoing contributions of UNIDROIT instruments to the development of private law in each region and beyond. The UNIDROIT Centenary Regional Conferences bring together academics\, judges\, practitioners\, policymakers\, representatives of international organisations\, and other public and private stakeholders to discuss the relevance\, implementation\, and future development of UNIDROIT’s work in the context of each region’s legal traditions and priorities. \nThis regional event for Africa in Johannesburg is organised in partnership with and hosted by the Research Centre for Private International Law in Emerging Countries at the University of Johannesburg (RCPILEC). \nThe Programme of the Conference\, which will also include a panel on the UNIDROIT “Africa Plus” International Programme for Law and Development\, is being finalised and will be circulated in due course. \nParticipation in the event is on an invitational basis\, please contact the Secretariat if you are interested in attending (info@unidroit.org). \n

DESCRIPTION:Following the Centenary celebrations in Japan and the Republic of Korea\, UNIDROIT is pleased to announce further events in Asia\, taking place in Beijing on 30–31 October 2026 and Hong Kong on 2–3 November 2026\, as the Institute’s regional celebrations gather momentum. \nMarking 100 years of UNIDROIT\, these events will celebrate a century of achievement in the harmonisation of private law while looking ahead to the legal challenges and opportunities shaping international commerce. From the continuing relevance of the Institute’s flagship instruments\, including the Cape Town Convention\, to emerging legal frontiers in the digital economy\, these events will provide opportunities to reflect on the Institute’s contributions to international private law and to discuss legal developments and priorities across the Asia-Pacific region. \nThe celebrations will reach a high point in Hong Kong\, where the Centenary Regional Conference will coincide with the opening of the UNIDROIT Asia-Pacific Liaison Office—the Institute’s first regional presence outside its headquarters in Rome. This historic milestone will open a new chapter in UNIDROIT’s engagement with the region\, followed the next day by the 3rd Asia-Pacific International Private Law Summit. \n  \nBeijing | 30–31 October 2026 \nOn 30 October\, UNIDROIT and the Beijing Arbitration Commission / Beijing International Arbitration Court (BAC/BIAC) will jointly organise the UNIDROIT Centenary Conference for the Asia-Pacific & Academic Conference on the Evolution of International Commercial Law and Legal Developments in the Digital Age. The Conference will provide a forum to reflect on the evolution of international commercial law and explore its development in an increasingly digital world. \nOn 31 October\, the UNIDROIT International Conference on the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment (Cape Town Convention) & Launch of the Annual Review on Supply Chain Finance Dispute Resolution in China (2026) will bring further attention to international legal frameworks for commercial financing and developments in supply chain finance dispute resolution. \nHong Kong | 2 November 2026 \nThe UNIDROIT Centenary: Regional Conference for the Asia-Pacific and Opening Ceremony of the Asia-Pacific Liaison Office will be jointly organised with the Department of Justice of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government and the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Academy\, as part of Hong Kong Legal Week 2026. Alongside the opening ceremony\, discussions will explore the contribution of UNIDROIT instruments to the region and opportunities for closer legal cooperation. \nHong Kong | 3 November 2026 \nThe 3rd Asia-Pacific International Private Law Summit\, jointly organised with the same partners\, will continue these exchanges under the theme “Advancing Future-Ready Legal Infrastructure to Foster Digital Innovation\, Sustainable Growth\, and Regional Connectivity in the Asia-Pacific”. The Summit will examine how international private law can respond to changing markets and support the region’s future development.
