LIBRARY RULES

In order to permit us to offer hospitality to all guests of the UNIDROIT Library, you are kindly requested to observe the rules below:

  • Access to the Library is only possible for authorised guests. Please see this form to request access.
  • Each day you are present in the Library, please sign in at the daily register at the Library’s entrance.
  • Upon arrival on your first day, you will be provided with a badge that should be worn visibly at all times on the premises of the Institute.
  • Visiting researchers and interns are assigned desks on the basis of availability. Some flexibility is required on the part of visitors due to space limitations and since on some occasions the main reading room is used by the Institute for special events.
  • All mobile phones should be switched off or on “silent” when entering the Library. If you must make a call, please do so discreetly, without disturbing others, and away from the reading rooms and offices.
  • Eating, drinking and smoking are forbidden in the Library. Bottled water is permitted in the reading rooms. Dedicated “coffee break” areas are made available to Library guests.
  • All guests are required to leave the Library premises and exit the main entrance of the Institute by 17:45. No after-hours presence is permitted.
  • It is forbidden to allow strangers to enter the building or to bring one’s own visitors into the Library (or the Institute in general).
  • The Library takes no responsibility for any personal property brought into the library. Lockers are available upon request; a deposit of 20 euro is required.

Loans and books requests

  • The Library is a reference library and therefore materials must be kept on the premises – no outside loans are permitted.
  • The Library’s holdings are stored in closed stacks. There is no free access to the items, neither in the reading areas nor in the storage rooms.
  • The requested materials will be delivered to you within one business day.
  • Material consulted in the Library should never be placed back on the shelves by patrons. Library Staff will reshelve all materials.
  • A maximum of 10 materials per day may be requested. Materials are made available for one week, with the possibility of extension for another week.

Photocopies

A photocopy machine is located in the Library. Any Library patron making use of the photocopying facilities shall comply with applicable copyright and licensing law. In any case, Library patrons should make photocopies for their personal research purposes only.

Privacy

All personal data collected by the Library staff is used solely for administrative purposes and improving Library services.

Internet

Wifi is made available in the reading rooms for authorised Library guests, with some restrictions (i.e., no streaming videos, playing video games, etc.).
