UNIDROIT provides assistance to Jordan on implementation of the Model Law on Factoring

On 30 April 2024, UNIDROIT participated in a workshop for the Central Bank of Jordan on “Legal Perspectives in Factoring and Supply Chain Finance”. Organised by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Legal Transition Team and Trade Facilitation Programme in collaboration with the FCI, and with support from the German Development Agency (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit), the workshop focused on how legal reforms can facilitate supply chain finance and access to credit for SMEs. The event considered both international standards for factoring and receivable finance, as well as recent reform experiences in Türkiye. Participating remotely, UNIDROIT Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson presented an overview of the UNIDROIT Model Law on Factoring and the core provisions that Jordan could consider implementing as part of its ongoing law reform process.

The  Model Law on Factoring was adopted in May 2023. A Guide to Enactment for the Model Law is currently being developed. More information is available on the UNIDROIT website at: https://www.unidroit.org/instruments/factoring/model-law-on-factoring/.
