AIJA ENDORSES UNIDROIT PRINCIPLES ON INTERNATIONAL COMMERCIAL CONTRACTS

On 8 October 2025, UNIDROIT Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado formally witnessed and signed the Resolution passed by the International Association of Young Lawyers – Association Internationale des Jeunes Avocats (AIJA), whereby the President, Mr Kato Aerts, formally endorsed the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts. The resolution “recommends that the UNIDROIT Principles 2016 be considered by its members and by the international legal community as an important option in connection with drafting, interpretation, and resolution of disputes relating to, international contracts”, an important endorsement that reaffirms existing recognition in the international legal community at large already expressed by Arbitration Tribunals, National Courts and Legislators, as well as other international organisations such as UNCITRAL.

The ceremony was held online and also involved Deputy Secretary-General Professor Anna Veneziano, as well as Professor Dr. Eckart Brödermann ((Universität Hamburg), LL.M., Maître en Droit, FCIArb), who championed the resolution and is active in the Promotion of the UNIDROIT Principles at large.
