On Monday 12 May 2025, the Queen Mary University London – UNIDROIT Institute for Transnational Commercial Law partnered with the International Chamber of Commerce United Kingdom (ICC UK), the United Nations Commission on International Trade Law (UNCITRAL), the European Bank of Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Factors Chain International (FCI), the UK Warehousing Association (UKWA) and the Centre for Applied Sustainable Transition Law (CASTL) to deliver a conference on ‘Optimising Supply Chain Finance: Unlocking Safe, Secure, Affordable Solutions’ in London.
Held in the margins of the EBRD Annual General Meeting, the event brought together international supply chain finance experts, policy makers, regulators, corporate finance lawyers and academics to discuss how Supply Chain Finance (SCF) plays a crucial role in enabling global trade by optimising cash flow, reducing financial risks, reducing the cost of capital and improving liquidity for businesses involved in international transactions. The event focused on how the UNIDROIT Model Law on Factoring and the UNCITRAL – UNIDROIT Model Law on Warehouse Receipts provide international legal frameworks that help businesses access safe, secure, cheap finance to drive growth and productivity. UNIDROIT Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano and the QMUL Sir John Lubbock Chair in Banking Law Professor Rosa Lastra delivered opening remarks, in their capacities as the Co-Directors of the Queen Mary University London – UNIDROIT Institute For Transnational Commercial Law. UNIDROIT Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson then delivered a keynote presentation on the UNIDROIT Model Law on Factoring and the UNCITRAL – UNIDROIT Model Law on Warehouse Receipts.
