UN MODEL RULES ON THE PERMANENT IDENTIFICATION OF RAILWAY ROLLING STOCK: UNIDROIT AT FIRST MEETING OF THE REVISIONS COMMITTEE

On 30 and 31 August 2023, Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano represented UNIDROIT at the first meeting of the Revisions Committee for the UN Model Rules on the permanent identification of railway rolling stock under the Luxembourg Rail Protocol to the Cape Town Convention, which was held at the UNECE premises in Geneva.

The Model Rules, which were adopted in 2022, implement a key requirement of the Luxembourg Rail Protocol, as they lay down the methods and responsibilities for affixing the permanent identifier to an item of railway rolling stock (URVIS number).

The meeting, which was organised by the UNECE Secretariat, was also attended by OTIF, the Rail Working Group, several UN member States, the EU Commission, as well as representatives of Rail industry associations and regulatory bodies.
