Within the framework of the International Law and Development Programme (IPLD), UNIDROIT is pleased to announce a call for applications for two Tutor scholarships.

About the IPLD Initiative: The UNIDROIT International Programme for Law and Development (IPLD) was established in 2022 under the UNIDROIT Academy with the generous support and collaboration of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation / Directorate General for Development and Cooperation (MAECI-DGCS). It aims to promote the dissemination and the practical implementation of international legal instruments developed by UNIDROIT. The Programme fosters legal unification and provides knowledge-sharing and training opportunities for legal professionals from targeted countries in the field of private and commercial law and development. It is open to judges, public lawyers, legal officers, and senior legislative drafters from law services and legislative cabinets. From 2022 to 2024 the IPLD welcomed yearly about 20 participants from African Countries. Starting from 2025 the IPLD has been split in two Programmes, a reinforced edition expecting to welcome about 30 participants from Africa (Africa Plus) and a Pilot programme open to about 20 participants from selected Countries of the Balkans, the European Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and Caucasus (BEPCAC):

  • IPLD Africa Plus 6 June – 4 July 2025
  • IPLD Balkans – Eastern Partnership – Central Asia – Caucasus (8 – 26 September 2025)

The Programme is delivered through a digital preparatory part on digital platform, followed by a residential part comprising workshops and seminars hosted at the UNIDROIT headquarters in Rome, Italy.

As part of the training, IPLD participants are also invited to explore the practical application of UNIDROIT legal instruments by developing and discussing a project that applies these instruments to national or regional contexts where tutorship and research assistance are required.
