UNIDROIT Launches its Archive Project in view of its 100th anniversary celebrations

On 26 February 2024, UNIDROIT invited its Membership and members of the international and Italian legal community in Rome to an event designed to present a flagship project the Institute has embarked upon to reorganize and publish its archives, which contain, among others, governance documents, a rich correspondence with its Member States and Host State (Italy), as well as a wealth of studies on its projects and legal unification instruments. The event, which inaugurated the initiatives leading up to the celebration of UNIDROIT’s 100th anniversary in 2026, was opened by UNIDROIT Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado and Cons. Walter Ferrara (Head of Office for International agreements and understandings, and International Law issues, Service for Legal Affairs, Diplomatic Disputes and International Agreements, Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs), and featured a keynote speech delivered by former Supreme Court Justice and Emeritus Professor Sabino Cassese, presentations by Ms Paola Busonero (Director of the Historical and Diplomatic Archive of the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs) and Giovanna Giubbini (Interim Director of archival and bibliographical superintendency for Lazio, Italian Ministry of Culture, and Member of the UNIDROIT Archives Committee). A presentation of the first of a series of volumes dedicated to the various historical phases of UNIDROIT’s activity, its projects, and the very highly regarded jurists and politicians who have sustained the Institute over the years and contributed to its identity, authored by UNIDROIT President Maria Chiara Malaguti, closed the event. UNIDROIT renews its sentiments of gratitude for the support received for this initiative from the archival and bibliographical superintendency for Lazio , the Ministry of Culture, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation and for the financial support received from the Fondazione del Monte di Bologna e Ravenna as partial coverage of the archiving activity.
