The 2025 UNIDROIT Asian Transnational Law Centre (ATLC) Summer School was officially inaugurated on 8 September 2025 at Zhongnan University of Economics and Law (ZUEL) in Wuhan, China. The event brought together representatives from UNIDROIT, ZUEL, the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Office and the Beijing Arbitration Commission alongside guests from the judiciary, arbitration institutions and legal associations in China. Co-organised by the UNIDROIT ATLC and ZUEL, with the support of the Hong Kong International Legal Talents Training Office and the Beijing Arbitration Commission, the Summer School highlights UNIDROIT’s commitment to capacity-building and its role in advancing legal cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. Over the next two weeks, participants will engage in an intensive programme of academic lectures, thematic workshops, and cultural activities designed to broaden their perspectives and inspire them to contribute to the unification and harmonisation of private law.

At the Opening Ceremony, keynote speakers, including Prof. Ignacio Tirado, Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, Prof. Renshan Liu, Vice President of ZUEL, as well as other honoured guests, extended their warm congratulations on the launch of the Summer School. They highlighted the significance of international cooperation in legal education, the value of cultivating young legal talent, and the role of initiatives such as this programme in promoting mutual understanding and the harmonisation of private law worldwide. Their remarks set an inspiring tone for the two-week academic journey ahead.

The ceremony concluded with the presentation of the Summer School flag to student representatives symbolising a warm welcome, shared responsibility, and high expectations for a rewarding experience in the weeks ahead.
