APPOINTMENT OF THE NEW PRESIDENT OF UNIDROIT

UNIDROIT is pleased to announce that, in accordance with Article 6(2) of the UNIDROIT Statute, the Italian Government has appointed Professor Enzo Moavero-Milanesi as President of UNIDROIT for a five-year term commencing on 1 September 2025.

Professor Moavero-Milanesi is a highly regarded Italian jurist and academic, currently teaching at the Luiss University in Rome and at the College of Europe in Bruges (Belgium). He served as Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Co-operation and as Minister for European Affairs in three different Italian Cabinets and was President of the OSCE (Security and Cooperation Organization in Europe). He was member of the Court of Justice of the European Union, as judge and president of Chamber at the EU General Court. He has also worked at the European Commission as, inter alia: Deputy Secretary General of the European Commission, Director General of the Bureau of the European Policy Advisers (BEPA), Director of ‘Antitrust Services’, Special Advisor for the ‘better regulation’ and the rule of law. He is the author of several scientific legal books and publications, mostly on EU law, antitrust and competition law, commercial law. He is member of the steering board of reputable law reviews and of the scientific council of the Italian Encyclopedia (Istituto della Enciclopedia Italiana – Treccani). He has been awarded state honors by sixteen countries.
