Forum on Legal Aspects of Contract Farming

Background

The Forum on Legal Aspects of Contract Farming is the successor of the Community of Practice on Legal Aspects of Contract Farming. The Community of Practice was originally established by UNIDROIT with the co-leadership of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) as part of the IFAD/FAO Project “Implementation of the Legal Guide on Contract Farming” which ended in December 2017.

Objectives and Activities of the Forum

The Forum on Legal Aspects of Contract Farming has the main objective of promoting a favourable legal environment for relationships between agricultural producers and commodity takers based on agricultural production contracts. Key in this context is the study, divulgation and implementation of the UNIDROIT/FAO/IFAD Legal Guide on Contract Farming released in July 2015.

The Forum webpage serves as a platform encouraging and providing visibility to projects and activities pursued by interested institutions or individuals in furtherance of the objective of the Forum. It also serves as a repository of legal information relating to Internet and bibliographical references, legislative and regulatory instruments, soft law and good practices. It offers a discussion area for interested institutions and individuals to share relevant information, comments, or projects.
