Latvian Supreme Court Delegation Visits UNIDROIT Headquarters

On 16 October 2025, UNIDROIT welcomed a delegation of legal research counsels from the Supreme Court of Latvia to its headquarters in Rome as part of a study visit aimed at deepening cooperation and understanding in the field of international private law.

The delegation, comprising of  Reinis Odiņš, Legal Research Counsel of the Department of Civil Cases, Iveta Pundure, Legal Research Counsel of the Department of Administrative Cases, Ivars Čivčs, Legal Research Counsel of the Department of Criminal Cases and Elīna Grigore-Bāra, Legal Research Counsel of the Division of Case-law and Research, was welcomed by Professor Anna Veneziano, Deputy Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, who delivered an introductory presentation on the Institute’s mission, history, and ongoing work to harmonise and modernise private law across jurisdictions.

This was followed by presentations by UNIDROIT Legal Officer, Dr Philine Wehling  on the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UPICC), and Senior Legal Officer Dr Rocco Palma on the UNIDROIT/ICC-IWBL Project on the UPICC and International Investment Contracts.

The visit concluded with a guided tour of UNIDROIT’s historic headquarters and library led by UNIDROIT Head Librarian Ms Bettina Maxion. The meeting provided an opportunity for constructive exchange between UNIDROIT and the Latvian judiciary on matters of international legal harmonisation.
