UNIDROIT contributes to webinar launching ILI – IFC Knowledge Guide on Crop Receipts Finance

On 20 January 2026, the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) participated in a webinar jointly hosted by the International Law Institute (ILI) and the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to launch the Knowledge Guide on Crops Receipts Finance. Published in October 2025, the Knowledge Guide was developed to support policymakers, regulators, and other stakeholders in designing and implementing legal and regulatory frameworks that enable the use of crop receipts to expand access to agricultural credit, particularly for smallholder farmers and agribusinesses.

The webinar featured presentations from ILI and IFC experts introducing the key aspects of the Knowledge Guide, followed by comments from relevant international organisations including UNIDROIT, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), and the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), as well as private sector perspectives. During the webinar, UNIDROIT Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson commented on the Knowledge Guide, highlighting its link to several existing UNIDROIT instruments in the field of agricultural law, and to UNIDROIT’s new project to develop an Agricultural Financing Legal Guide – a high priority project on the Institute’s 2026 – 2028 Work Programme.
