On 5 February 2026, Dr. Philine Wehling, Legal Officer at UNIDROIT, delivered an online webinar within the framework of cooperation with the Egyptian State Lawsuits Authority (ESLA), focusing on UNIDROIT’s work in the harmonisation of transnational commercial contract law.

The webinar was organised in cooperation with the Judicial Studies, Training and International and Cultural Cooperation Center (JSTICC) of ESLA, under the auspices of H.E. Counselor Dr. Hussein Madkour, President of ESLA and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Center, and in coordination with its Director, Counsellor Ahmed Saad Abdel-Aaty. The event attracted wide participation from judges and counsellors representing various judicial bodies and authorities in Egypt.

During the webinar, Dr. Wehling introduced participants to the analytical framework of transnational private law harmonisation, outlining its objectives, key actors and institutional settings. She then examined the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UPICC), presenting their genesis, purposes and normative architecture, as well as their functions and uses in contractual incorporation, their influence on case law and arbitral practice, and their role in legal reform. The presentation further addressed the regional reception and application of the UPICC, with particular emphasis on the MENA region.

The webinar concluded with a lively and constructive exchange with participants.
