UNIDROIT in Cambodia for Institutional Meetings

On 4 March 2026, UNIDROIT visited to the National Commercial Arbitration Centre (NCAC) of Cambodia and was received by Mr. HIB Nareth West, President of NCAC, together with the members of the NCAC Executive Board. The meeting explored avenues to strengthen cooperation through the exchange of expertise and knowledge, including opportunities for NCAC representatives to participate in UNIDROIT seminars and training programmes, and also served to promote UNIDROIT’s legal instruments. Both parties expressed interest in further collaboration.

Later that day, UNIDROIT visited Cambodia’s Ministry of Commerce (MoC). Secretary-General Professor Ignacio Tirado and Principal Legal Officer Professor Meiling Huang were received by H.E. Mr. Buon Sarakmony, Secretary of State at the MoC. The parties explored potential areas of cooperation and exchanged views on relevant UNIDROIT workstreams and instruments, including work on insolvency and the Cape Town Convention and its Protocols.

The visit continued at Ministry of Justice (MoJ) of Cambodia, and a meeting was held with H.E. Mr. Neak Seakirin, Secretary of State at the MoJ, and Dr. Khlok Dara, Director General of the General Department of International Affairs and Justice Sector Development. Discussions covered Cambodia’s potential accession to UNIDROIT as a Member State, as well as a prospective capacity-building project in the field of private international law, particularly commercial law. The two sides also exchanged views on a number of legal topics of mutual interest, including insolvency, commercial litigation, and alternative dispute resolution.
