UNIDROIT receives delegation from Saudi Arabian Ministry of Justice

On 25 January 2024, UNIDROIT received an official visit from His Excellency Mr Bashar bin Omar Almofadda (Deputy Minister for Legislation and International Cooperation of the Ministry of Justice of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia). The Deputy Minister headed a delegation composed of interim Director of the International Cooperation Department Mr Jihad bin Abdulaziz Al-Yahya, Visits and Relations Supervisor Mr Omar bin Muhammad Al-Sulaiman, International Organisations Unit Supervisor Mr Ahmed bin Saleh Al-Aqili, Agreements and Memoranda of Understanding Unit Supervisor Mr Sultan bin Abdullah Al-Falih. First Secretary and Political Chargé d’Affaires Mr Abdulaziz Alasim of the Embassy of Saudi Arabia in Rome accompanied the delegation.

The delegation was received by President Maria Chiara Malaguti, Deputy Secretary-General Anna Veneziano, Principal Legal Officer and Treaty Depositary Marina Schneider, Senior Legal Officer William Brydie-Watson, and Legal Officer Philine Wehling, who all participated in a very informative exchange on the mutual areas of interest and possible avenues, going forward, to further strengthen ties between UNIDROIT and Saudi Arabia to enhance strategic engagement in the Gulf and MENA region. Various forms of cooperation were discussed, including  memoranda of understanding to secure a constant dialogue on the enhancement of current reforms through implementation of UNIDROIT instruments.
