UNIDROIT launched consultation on draft Principles and Model Clauses for International Investment Contracts

UNIDROIT has opened a public consultation in relation to the draft UNIDROIT-ICC Principles and Model Clauses for International Investment Contracts.

The draft soft-law instrument aims to promote the modernisation and standardisation of international investment contracts in light of the evolving landscape of investment law and arbitration. It has been developed by the Working Group on International Investment Contracts, composed of experts from different legal systems, as part of a project conducted by UNIDROIT in cooperation with the International Chamber of Commerce’s Institute of World Business Law.

The purpose of the consultation is to raise awareness about the draft instrument, encourage participation by public and private stakeholders in the final stages of its development, and gather feedback on whether it adequately addresses the legal issues surrounding investment contracting. The consultation also seeks to ensure that the instrument is well-suited to application in different contexts and that it provides a balanced framework for both States and investors.

The consultation will remain open until 15 September 2026. All information relating to the consultation, including the text of the draft instrument, is available on the dedicated consultation webpage: https://www.unidroit.org/work-in-progress/investment-contracts-upicc/2026-wg-pc/.
