DIPLOMATIC CONFERENCE TO ADOPT A MOBILE EQUIPMENT CONVENTION AND AN AIRCRAFT PROTOCOL, CAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA, 29 OCTOBER - 16 NOVEMBER 2001

The Diplomatic Conference to adopt a Mobile Equipment Convention and an Aircraft Protocol was held, under the joint auspices of the International Institute for the Unification of Private Law (UNIDROIT) and the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), at the invitation of the Government of South Africa, in Cape Town from 29 October to 16 November 2001.

68 States and 14 international Organisations attended the diplomatic Conference.

The following 53 States signed the Final Act at the closing ceremony of the diplomatic Conference: Argentina, Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, Botswana, Brazil, Burundi, Cameroon, Canada, Chile, China, Republic of the Congo, Costa Rica, Cuba, Czech Republic, Egypt, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany, Ghana, Greece, India, Islamic Republic of Iran, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Japan, Jordan, Kenya, Lebanon, Lesotho, Libyan Arab Jamahiriya, Malawi, Netherlands, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Republic of Korea, Russian Federation, Singapore, South Africa, Spain, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Tanzania, Tonga, Turkey, Uganda, United Arab Emirates, United Kingdom, United States of America.

The Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment (the Convention) was drafted and adopted in ArabicChineseEnglishFrenchRussianSpanish.

UNIDROIT was designated Depositary of the Convention under Article 62 (1) thereof.

The Protocol to the Convention on International Interests in Mobile Equipment on Matters specific to Aircraft Equipment (the Aircraft Protocol) was drafted and adopted in ArabicChineseEnglishFrenchRussianSpanish.

UNIDROIT was designated Depositary of the Aircraft Protocol under Article XXXVII (1) thereof.
