On 7 June 2023, Professor Maria Chiara Malaguti, President of UNIDROIT, delivered a Distinguished Visitor Lecture entitled “Innovation and Digitalization in the Financial Sector: Changing Dynamics of Legal Risks and the Role of Global Standards and Principles”. The Lecture organised by the Centre for Banking & Law (CBFL) of the NUS Law School, took place at the Moot Court, NUS Law (Bukit Timah Campus), in Singapore.
The conference focused on the evolution of legal risks in the financial sector, highlighting that systemic effects have given way to the impact of technological innovation and the entry of new actors. This transformation introduces new sources of legal risk and creates uncertainty in the application of traditional legal concepts. To meet these challenges and promote uniformity of private law in the financial sector, global standards and principles play an essential role.
