UNIDROIT and Roma Tre Sign Additional Protocol for the Space Sector

On 21 July 2025 UNIDROIT and the Law Department of Roma Tre University, together with the Inter-Faculty Research Center on Space Policy of Roma Tre University, signed an Additional Protocol aimed to undertake a joint project in the space sector. Building upon the previous Memorandum of Understanding for academic collaboration signed by UNIDROIT and Roma Tre Law Department, on 15 November 2021, the additional protocol provides for joint development of an academic research, within the UNIDROIT Academy activities, aiming to investigate and understand how traditional legal issues of private law can apply to the space sector, with particular regard to the areas of liability and contracts. The parties intend to involve other experts from academia, research centres, professional bodies, space agencies, national institutions and governments, and other international organisations. CELIS – Reasearch Center on “Law, Innovation and Sustainability” of the Law Department of Milano-Bicocca University, University of Teramo, and Mercatorum University are all involved in this project. The outcome of such research might lead to the formalisation of a legislative project proposal to be submitted to UNIDROIT governance. The Agreement was signed by UNIDROIT Secretary-General Ignacio Tirado, Director of Roma Tre Law Department Antonio Carratta, and Director of the Inter-Faculty Research Center on Space Policies of Roma Tre University Sirio Zolea.
