UNIDROIT Contributes to ITC-ILO Master of Laws in International Trade Law

Turin, 13 May 2026 – UNIDROIT Legal Officer Dr Philine Wehling delivered a course on transnational contract law to the 2026 cohort of the Master of Laws in International Trade Law at the International Training Centre of the International Labour Organization (ITC-ILO) campus in Turin, Italy.

The prestigious LL.M. programme is jointly organised by the ITC-ILO in partnership with UNIDROIT, UNCITRAL, the University Institute of European Studies, and the University of Turin, in collaboration with the Turin School of Development.

Dr Wehling’s course provided students with a comprehensive examination of transnational contract law, with particular emphasis on the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UPICC). Participants examined the genesis, structure, and substantive content of the Principles, alongside their practical use in contracting, dispute resolution, and legislative reform across diverse legal systems. The course further highlighted the evolving role of the UPICC as a model for the development of other international contractual instruments and their growing authority as a source of general contract law in transnational legal practice.

Through practical examples and interactive discussion, students analysed the various ways in which the Principles are applied in international commercial practice and reflected on their contribution to legal certainty, predictability, and the facilitation of cross-border trade.

UNIDROIT remains committed to advancing legal education and fostering collaboration with leading international institutions and academic programmes.
