UNIDROIT Hosts 2026 Cohort of PROLAW Students  

On 12 February 2026, the UNIDROIT Secretariat hosted the 2026 cohort of students from the Rule of Law for Development Program (PROLAW) at the John Felice Rome Center Campus of Loyola University Chicago School of Law, accompanied by Professor Tom McInerney.

Deputy Secretary-General Professor Anna Veneziano opened the session with an overview of UNIDROIT, presenting its governance, working methods, key instruments, ongoing projects, and its role in promoting harmonisation and unification of private law at the international level. Legal Officer Dr. Philine Wehling then introduced the UNIDROIT Principles of International Commercial Contracts (UPICC), explaining their preparatory history, legal architecture, key provisions, and practical applications in contract drafting, dispute resolution, and legal reform. Legal Officer Dr. Priscila Pereira de Andrade concluded with a presentation on the UNIDROIT/IFAD Legal Guide on Agricultural Land Investment Contracts (ALIC), outlining its objectives, content, key features, and its role in promoting responsible investment in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The visit concluded with a guided tour of the UNIDROIT Library, led by Librarian Ms Alexandra Logue, providing insights into the extensive collection supporting the Institute’s research and legislative work.

The visit highlights UNIDROIT’s continuing dedication to legal education and its efforts to advance global understanding of harmonised private law.
