UNIDROIT WELCOMES THE KWADUKUZA G20 MINISTERIAL DECLARATION ON CULTURE

UNIDROIT welcomes the KwaDukuza Declaration of the G20 Ministers of Culture, adopted on 29 October 2025 under the G20 Presidency of South Africa.

The Declaration reaffirms the importance of culture as a driver of sustainable development and highlights the need to strengthen international cooperation to safeguard and return cultural heritage, including through the effective implementation of key multilateral instruments such as the 1995 UNIDROIT Convention on Stolen or Illegally Exported Cultural Objects.

UNIDROIT commends the Ministers’ recognition of the role played by international legal frameworks in addressing the illicit trafficking of cultural property and ensuring the restitution of cultural objects to their countries of origin.

UNIDROIT stands ready to assist States wishing to give effect to the commitments expressed in the Declaration, including through accession to and implementation of the 1995 Convention, capacity-building, and legal cooperation in the protection of cultural heritage.
