Rome/Bonn, 19 mai 2026 – UNIDROIT et l’Université de Bonn ont signé un Protocole d’accord officialisant leur collaboration. Ce Protocole d’accord a été signé lors d’une cérémonie virtuelle le 19 mai 2026 par le Professeur Ignacio Tirado, Secrétaire Général d’UNIDROIT, et le Professeur Martin Böse, Doyen de la Faculté de droit et d’économie de l’Université de Bonn.
La cérémonie a réuni Mme Philine Wehling, Fonctionnaire d’UNIDROIT, ainsi que le Professeur Matthias Weller, M. Juan Rowlands (Chercheur associé) et M. Sven Au (Chercheur associé et Coordinateur de la coopération internationale) de la Faculté de droit et d’économie de l’Université de Bonn.
Ce Protocole d’accord établit un cadre pour un large éventail d’activités conjointes, notamment la recherche juridique, les échanges universitaires et l’enseignement. Il encourage en outre la collaboration dans le domaine du droit comparé et transnational, ainsi que les initiatives visant à soutenir la réforme juridique et l’élaboration de cadres juridiques internationaux en droit commercial et dans d’autres domaines du droit privé.
Dans son allocution, le Professeur Tirado s’est félicité de la conclusion du Protocole d’accord et a souligné la forte convergence entre les missions d’UNIDROIT et de l’Université de Bonn, qui consistent à promouvoir des cadres juridiques et socio-économiques stables facilitant les échanges culturels et commerciaux transfrontaliers. Il a réaffirmé l’engagement de longue date d’UNIDROIT en faveur de la coopération internationale avec les établissements universitaires et de la promotion de l’harmonisation et de la modernisation du droit privé grâce à une collaboration soutenue à l’échelle mondiale.
Le Professeur Böse a salué ce partenariat, soulignant l’importance de la recherche juridique comparative et internationale dans un monde interconnecté et réaffirmant l’engagement de la Faculté à soutenir les travaux d’UNIDROIT en matière d’harmonisation du droit privé. Il a en outre fait remarquer que, dans un contexte de tensions géopolitiques croissantes qui mettent de plus en plus à l’épreuve la coopération internationale, des organisations telles qu’UNIDROIT démontrent que le dialogue transfrontalier reste à la fois possible et essentiel.
Le Professeur Matthias Weller a exprimé sa gratitude pour la mise en place de ce partenariat et a souligné les importantes perspectives qu’il ouvre pour une future collaboration entre l’Université de Bonn et UNIDROIT, au bénéfice des experts, des chercheurs et des étudiants des deux institutions.

UNIDROIT and University of Bonn Sign Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Collaboration
Rome/Bonn, 19 May 2026 – UNIDROIT and the University of Bonn have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) formalising their collaboration. The MoU was signed during a virtual ceremony on 19 May 2026 by Professor Ignacio Tirado, Secretary-General of UNIDROIT, and Professor Martin Böse, Dean of the Faculty of Law and Economics at the University of Bonn.
The ceremony was attended by Legal Officer Philine Wehling from UNIDROIT, as well as Professor Matthias Weller, Mr Juan Rowlands (Research Associate), and Mr Sven Au (Research Associate and Coordinator of International Cooperation) from the Faculty of Law and Economics of the University of Bonn.
The MoU establishes a framework for a broad range of joint activities, including legal research, scholarly exchange, and teaching. It further promotes collaboration in comparative and transnational law, as well as initiatives supporting legal reform and the development of international legal frameworks in commercial law and other areas of private law.
In his remarks, Professor Tirado welcomed the conclusion of the MoU and highlighted the strong alignment between the missions of UNIDROIT and the University of Bonn in fostering stable legal and socio-economic frameworks that facilitate cultural and commercial exchange across borders. He reaffirmed UNIDROIT’s longstanding commitment to international engagement with academic institutions and to advancing the harmonisation and modernisation of private law through sustained collaboration worldwide.
Professor Böse expressed appreciation for the partnership, stressing the importance of comparative and international legal research in an interconnected world and reaffirming the Faculty’s commitment to supporting UNIDROIT’s work on the harmonisation of private law. He further noted that, amidst growing geopolitical tensions that increasingly challenge international cooperation, organisations such as UNIDROIT demonstrate that cross-border dialogue remains both possible and essential.
Professor Matthias Weller expressed gratitude for the establishment of the partnership and emphasised the significant opportunities it creates for future collaboration between the University of Bonn and UNIDROIT, benefiting experts, scholars, and students at both institutions.
